These styles are definitely office chic, and worn with the right accessories they can even work for date night or a night out on the town. I could definitely see myself in the Peplum and the Utility.

Many celebrities have been spotted rocking this iconic style, but nothing comes close to the original: Janet Jackson.

Twenty years after debuting the box braid style in the 1993 film “Poetic Justice,” Jackson was seen rocking them again during Milan Fashion Week. She was spotted front row at the Versace show with her husband Wissam Al Mana.

I think she looks amazing! And I’m loving the high pony! You can bet I’ll be reviving this style myself later on this year!

After launching a clothing line for British retailer River Island, Rihanna has landed an unprecedented deal with MAC Cosmetics. According to WWD, the makeup giant and the pop princess will team up for a series of four color collections called RiRi [Hearts] MAC which will debut later this year.

The first product to launch will be RiRi Woo, a lipstick inspired by her favorite MAC lipstick, Ruby Woo. Its debut will coincide with Rihanna’s Diamond Tour concerts on May 4 and 5 at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, where MAC will open a pop-up shop on the first night to unveil the line. The lipstick will also be sold online, along with a summer collection to follow.

Like most makeup fiends, Rihanna seems to equate quality product with the MAC brand. “When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind — for something legit — is MAC,” the singer told WWD. “Whatever color you want, it’s like ‘Let’s go to MAC.’ I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”

But ton’s of other artists have done it before: Nicki Minaj, Azealia Banks, Gaga, the list goes on. So what’s the big deal?! Well, this is the first time the brand will work with a celebrity for more than just a one-off project. ”We always say that MAC likes to go on a date but doesn’t really want to go into a relationship,” said John Demsey, group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., MAC’s parent company. “This relationship with Rihanna is a long-term one that involves the development of four distinct color initiatives.”

MAC is also referring to the 25-year-old singer as a “creative partner” not a collaborator, and as such her name will appear on the packaging, and her signature will be embossed on the RiRi Woo lipstick case and on the bullets of the summer lipsticks, as well as several of the fall and holiday pieces.

Many are speculating as to how the Rihanna’s image will affect the brand, especially in light of her on again off again relationship with Chris Brown, but Dempsey and MAC stand firm in the decision to collaborate with the singer. “She’s a grown woman, and whatever makes her happy makes us happy. Life’s complicated. Far be it for us to judge,” he said.

And he’s exactly right. As much as you love to hate Ri, you can’t deny that she’s transformed into quite the industry powerhouse. Whatever she does sells and she always has the Rihanna Navy behind her.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that good spirits continue to flow into the coming year!

This Christmas as I celebrated with my family and friends, it was hard for me not to think about the tragedy that struck Sandy Hook Elementary and the town of Newton, CT just a week ago. My heart is heavy for those families who lost a loved one and I can only imagine how hard it was to make it through this first Christmas without them.

This coming semester, the Newton community will take its first step forward by moving Sandy Hook students to a new school home at Chalk Hill Elementary. To welcome the students back from winter break, the Connecticut PTSA would like to create a winter wonderland at their new school and has organized a way for YOU to get involved: Snowflakes for Sandy Hook.

All you need is paper, scissors, a stamp and envelope and a little creativity! If you’d like to participate you can make and decorate a snowflake and mail it to:

I decided that it would a cute little project to do with my Lil Man so we got few art supplies and sat down yesterday to create our snowflakes.

I won’t lie, it didn’t go well at first. It’s been a while since I’ve made a paper snowflake. But we eventually got it together and made about a dozen of them for ourselves and a few other loved ones. If you’re having trouble you can find templates or instructions on the web. Google is your friend.

I hope you’ll decided to participate and show some much needed love to the students of Sandy Hook and the Newton community!

Like a typical beauty girl, my wishlist is usually filled with beauty products, clothes, shoes and makeup. But this season, I’m lusting after more “practical” items. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. 

(1) Canon Rebel T2i
If I had to pick just one thing on my list, this would be it. I’m long overdue for an upgrade from my trusty point-and-shoot and I have a few projects in the works that require the more advanced features of a DSLR.

(2) Clarisonic Aria
You didn’t really think that my list wouldn’t include a beauty gadget, did you?! This little gadget is a must-have facial cleansing system for any beauty girl.

(3) Olloclip 3-in-1 iPhone photo lens
Because even with a digital cam and a camcorder in my possession, I’d still rather shoot on my phone sometimes. The Olloclip is the perfect accessory to  give my iPhone photos a professional touch.

(4) iPad Mini
An iPad is perfect for my on-the-go blogger needs. And finally it comes in a more compact size for girly little hands like mine.

(5) Epilator
The less often I have to shave, the better. ‘Nough said.

(6) Sewing Machine
I haven’t quite decided on a model but I think I’m going to go with a Janome whenever I finally get one. The Singer my mom gave me is in it’s last days, so it’s time for this DIY Queen to get a new one.

The other day I found out my mom had kept a suitcase full of old jeans and pants I’d worn in high school and my early college days. She was going to donate them to our local SPCA thrift shop, but some were in really good condition and since they still fit, I wanted to see how I could refashion them and make them into something new and different.

I posted this pic on my Instagram, and promised my followers that I would keep them posted on the DIY projects that I made from this stack of old pants.

I scoured the web for project ideas and came across these pics of tie-dye denim, a popular trend this past spring.

Jeans like Rihanna’s Charley 5.0 leggings to Elle Macpherson’s Isabel Marant tie-dye jeans run from anwhere between $100 to $200. Yikes! Definitely not in my current budget. The cost of the supplies needed to DIY this trend however, I can work with.

You will need:

a pair of old jeans
thick Rubber bands 
bleach (diluted)
a large bowl or bucket

You will also need a pair of rubber gloves. Bleach burns people! 

First you will need to tie off your denim using your rubber bands.

There’s no right or wrong way to do this part. No two pairs will turn out exactly alike. Use as many (or few) bands as you like. I started by tying off both legs, making my way up to the waist until I formed a giant jean ball.

Next, (wearing gloves) I filled a bucket with diluted bleach and submerged my jeans in the solution. Leave your jeans in the solution for a few hours, checking consistently to see how light they are becoming. You might need to turn them once or twice during the process as parts of your jeans may float above the solution depending on how they are tied or folded.

When you’re happy with the color, remove them from the bleach solution (wearing gloves) and rinse with cold water. I hung them on the line for about an hour or so to let them set before washing.

And here’s a preview of me wearing them. 

I probably won’t be rocking this pair out and about until the spring, but I also DIYed a more fall/winter suitable black/gray pair while I was at it. OOTD post later-ish (:
